Maryland Food Stamp Challenge Events

Shopping Trip at Santoni’s – 9 a.m.

WHO: Rosemary King Johnston, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office for Children; Hank Greenberg, State Director for Maryland, AARP; and Maryland Hunger Solutions Director Cathy Demeroto
WHAT: Participants will shop and purchase foods for the Challenge week by using the average food stamp benefit as their budget. Participants will discuss the choices they have to make to afford an adequate diet for the week.

Brown Bag Roundtable Discussion at Maryland Hunger Solutions – 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

WHAT: Participants will discuss reasons for joining the Food Stamp Challenge and solutions for ending hunger in Maryland.

Screening of Food Stamped & Panel Discussion at Enoch Pratt Free Library Central Branch – 5 p.m.

WHAT: Food Stamped is an informative and humorous documentary film following a couple as they attempt to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet on a food stamp budget. Through their adventures they consult with members of U.S. Congress, food justice organizations, nutrition experts, and people living on food stamps to take a deep look at America’s broken food system. Q&A follows with a diverse panel that will speak on the various issues surrounding hunger and nutrition in Maryland.
