Voices of Hunger and Hope

Each of the nearly one in six* Marylanders struggling to afford enough food for themselves or their families has a story to tell. Voices of Hunger and Hope provides a forum for people throughout the state to talk about the challenges they face, how they manage or overcome their hardships, as well as an opportunity to share their successes.

In April 2011, Maryland Hunger Solutions launched the Voices of Hunger and Hope project. We are talking with people in Maryland who have benefitted or are currently benefitting from the federal nutrition programs, including SNAP (called the Food Supplement Program or FSP in Maryland and formerly known as Food Stamps), WIC, School Breakfast Program, the Afterschool Meal Program, and the Summer Nutrition Programs.

These interviews will provide valuable insight into the struggles that many Marylanders encounter and the importance of the federal nutrition programs to help eradicate hunger, increase access to healthy foods, and move people out of poverty. We are extremely grateful to those who have shared their stories with us and we look forward to hearing from more Marylanders throughout the state.

If you or someone you know is interested in sharing their story, contact Kate Ronan at kronan@mdhungersolutions.org or (410) 528-0021.
