Food Stamps

Who can get food stamps? People of all ages and backgrounds can receive food stamps including:

  • low wage or part-time workers;
  • unemployed persons;
  • people on disability;
  • if you're receiving cash assistance
  • homeless persons;
  • immigrants/non-U.S. citizens

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has a Food Stamp Pre-Screening Eligibility Tool which help you determine if you are eligible. According to the site, "Some states have special eligibility rules. If this pre-screening tool tells you you're not eligible, you MIGHT STILL be eligible in your state. Maybe your state has special rules that make you eligible. You should always check with your local food stamp office to know for sure."

Visit the Maryland Department of Human Resources Food Stamp information page to download an application and see a list of local offices where you can apply for food stamps in person.

SAIL (Service Access and Information Link) helps you to apply, renew, or learn about various social services, including food stamps, offered by the State of Maryland.
